Elf On The Shelf Fails: Instead Of Making Kids Behave, These Elves Only Make Kids Laugh

One of the most exciting festive traditions that kids look forward to is the elf on the shelf tradition. It is a fun tradition that involves parents setting up elf figurines in different spots. The purpose is to make kids believe the elf is watching them- in case they misbehave. Well, some of these elf settings end up being hilariously awful. Here are five of the funniest we’ve seen.

We don’t need all the details

No matter how real the depiction of something looks, it can’t be like the real thing. But some people always go to impossible limits to recreate every detail, leading to disasters like the one in this picture.

This parent thought it was creative to set up an elf shelf with a marshmallow-roasting scene. Little did they know that the marshmallow would catch on fire and almost burn down the house. The kids in the house have probably lost their faith in the elf.

Elf in the litter box

In a whimsical attempt at Elf on the Shelf magic, a parent meticulously staged an endearing “elf making snow angels” scene, sprinkling sugar across the kitchen counter.

The tiny, sugary imprints resembled a winter wonderland until their mischievous cat, misled by the snowy scene, mistook it for a makeshift litter box. The adorable intentions quickly turned into a hilarious mishap, creating a memorable, albeit messy, moment blending feline curiosity with holiday cheer.

Who said elves don’t get sick?

The most creative elf-on-the-shelf concepts are those that are realistic. That’s probably what motivated this parent to attempt this concept. It’s a pity that it turned out badly.

This parent wanted to create a scene where the elf chewed a bubble gum and blew a bubble from their butt. Unfortunately, the bubble deflated, making it look like the elf had diarrhea. Get well soon, elf.

The dog didn’t want to be watched, sorry

Seeing a concept online and wanting to incorporate it is one thing; getting your pet to cooperate is another. This parent didn’t think of their dog before putting this elf on watchman duty.

The dog probably saw the elf as a toy or a creepy threat. The result was a severely injured elf lying helpless on the floor. With its cap removed and part of its face bit off, the elf looks more than pitiful.

Can a scarred elf watch the kids?

Many people often get so focused on the elf’s costume and concept that they forget about the best locations. However, these toy elves are not indestructible, so they should be protected from harm. This parent is a hilariously bad example.

This parent placed the elf too close to a light fixture– and it burned off its face. With such scars on its face, the elf might be scary to the kids in the house. What a way to ruin such an elf with a fine smile.
